Copyright Information

First, no one at DemoCountry.com is an attorney. The information provided here is not meant to be construed as legal advice. This is merely information gathered from a variety of sources including the copyright office of the United States. You are encouraged to follow the links below to gain further insite on the copyright process.

Although it is no longer required under U.S. law on works created after March 1, 1989, it is advisable to mark all your work with the © symbol or "copyright" showing the work is copyrighted. It also identifies the copyright owner, and display the year in which the work was first published. Plus if a proper notice of copyright appears on the published work, a defendant cannot say he or she innocently infringed upon the copyright by claiming he or she did not know the work was copyrighted.

The proper form for displaying a copyright according to the U.S. Copyright office is as follows:

1. The word "copyright" or the symbol © or the abbreviation Copr.

2. The year the work was first published. Placing your song on DemoCountry.com is a form of publishing.

3. The owner(s) of the copyright.

A circled p is used to indicate the sound recording itself is copyrighted as well. For more information on this follow the link to the U.S. Copyright office.
